Carrying on with this week’s bird theme. Supposedly, red-winged blackbirds are found just about everywhere in North and Central America, but I don’t remember ever seeing them while I was growing up in southern New Brunswick.

Since moving to Ontario, however, I see them everywhere. The flash of red is very eye-catching on its own, but they also tend to be very chattery little things. It’s hard to believe I just never noticed them growing up, but who knows. Maybe it’s one of those things you can be completely oblivious to until you see it for the first time. Then, all of a sudden, you see it everywhere you look. I’ll have to keep an eye out the next time I’m in NB.
