Save Stargate!

I have recently learned that not only was Amazon going to do a Stargate reboot, but that they decided to cancelled it before it even got off the ground. I have no special insight into the inner workings of Amazon, but word is their reasoning for abandoning the project was something along the lines of: It would mostly appeal to the established fanbase.

Huh?

Who did they think they were making it for in the first place? It wouldn’t be worth rebooting anything if there weren’t an existing fanbase. I know they want to make a show that appeals to everyone, but usually attempt to accomplish that result is shows that appeal to no one. (Rings of Power, anyone?).

Some have pointed out that the Stargate fanbase may have dodged a bullet. Amazon has been known to take beloved IPs and ruin them (again, Rings of Power, anyone?). An unfortunate modern trend (lookin’ at you, Disney). But rumour also has it that there were some original creators and cast members involved so there was a fighting chance this reboot would actually be good.

Therefore, a petition as been launched to Save Stargate. If, like me, you love and miss the sci fi of the 90s and early 2000s, sign the petition. I know it’s far from guaranteed it will make a difference, but it definitely won’t if we don’t try. If nothing else, I’m sure the people involved in the show will appreciate knowing they have the fans’ support.

Regardless of how this turns out, I will be rewatching old episodes because Stargate is still awesome.
